First Baptist Church is led by the cooperative leadership
of a pastor, council, and deacons in the Southern Baptist tradition.
The senior pastor is Richard Cavoretto, who has been leading the
congregation for more than 6 years. Pastor Cavoretto is assisted by
Associate Pastor Scott Mohr, who has been with the church for 5 years and
has helped pastor for over a year.
First Baptist Church of Oakhurst is organized around 5
principles, or purposes which define who we are as a church; how we
function, and what we see as our mission to Oakhurst and the world.
Those five principles are:
Worship We believe we are called to
give God the credit for being God! We think that describes praise and
worship.
Fellowship Gathering together is one
of the cornerstones of the Christian faith. We fellowship to show
love, produce harmony, and enjoy God's presence together.
Evangelism Evangelism is the public
proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ. We "evangelize" in many
ways...through preaching, fellowship, concerts, helping others, to name a
few.
Discipleship One of the last things
Jesus said to His followers was to "Go out into all the world and make
disciples!" This purpose differs from evangelism in that it deals with
the continued growth and development of Christians who have come to faith.
Service Jesus Christ modeled service
as the prime quality of any follower of His, and this principle of service
is the thread which holds the others together. Service to each other,
to the community, and to the world.
