Sugar Pine (pinus lambertiana) is found on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, from the 4,500 to 9,000 foot elevations.

The tree usually tops out at 175 to 200 feet, making it the tallest American pine tree! Many Sugar Pines are 3 to 7-feet in diameter with cones ranging from 10-inches to 20+ inches long and 4-inches to 6-inches in diameter.

The cones ripen, shed their seeds, and fall during the second summer of growth.
