Miami Mountain Fire Lookout
2010 Volunteer Staffing Calendar

Our Very Special "Thanks and Best Wishes" from all of the Volunteers to Rich Camp for his many years of Dedicated Service to Miami Mountain Fire Lookout!

UPDATES: The water has been repaired by Ray Swartz. There are spout water bottles for your use. The weather information can be acquired from the RAWS station (ICON) on the internet or use the CES instruments, the instructions for use are in the black instrument boxes. You can get direct RH%/Temperature/Dew Point-Degrees F, measure at the RAWS station level for weather sheet information which has been revised. Please make sure to have ALL visitors read the JHA for ascending, descending and tower safety which is located on the water tank next to the stairs before going up the tower. A new dual-mode smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector have been installed in the cab, and a current certified fire extinguisher in the cab. WELCOME! New Volunteers, Nan Oswald, completed training sessions and scheduled to staff, Dave Briley, completed (1) training session, Jacqueline Kurtt, completed second training session and is scheduling staffing and Steve and Robert Woods, starting training in August. Please remember to set all combo locks to "0000" after unlocking and verify when locking....we should only know the magic numbers!!! There are some additional information sheets in the logbook that "Understanding Fire Danger", this contains the Adjective Reading definitions and "Tips for Quickly Identifying the location of Smokes on a Map". We may want to record the daily Adjective readings for Miami on the logbook weather for trending. Also here is an excellent link for weather training "http://www.srh.noaa.gov/jetstream//" JetStream On-Line School for Weather". There are various modules for training on specific weather topics and there is a test and certificate for each module you successfully complete the test.

If you have scheduling changes either call me ASAP or E-mail me at: mayjeff@sbcglobal.net
