Representational watercolors of animals, birds and old buildings are Dot's specialty. Several coats of under-glazing and dry brush techniques give a realistic portrayal of her subjects. Dot's style lends itself well to smaller paintings, ranging in size from miniatures to 8 x 12 inches. Dot's artistic talents surfaced after her four children were grown and she retired from elementary school teaching in Taft, California. With her husband, Jim, Dot moved to North Fork in 1977, where she continued with the oil painting she had begun to study in Taft. Membership in Artist Pals of North Fork and Yosemite Western Artists introduced her to watercolor and her distinctive style began to emerge. Dot has studied watercolor techniques with Sidney Kittinger, Jane Burnham, LaVere Hutchings and Del Slater. Life drawing sessions with Kittinger and the Friday Life Drawing Group at the Schoolhouse Gallery have enhanced the realism of her work. Dot Morris gained recognition in 1982 when she was selected as the featured artist in the North Fork Artist Pals Art Show, and in 1983 when she presented a one-woman show at the North Fork Library. Awards won in local shows and the Madera County Fair led to commissions and sales at art shows and craft festivals. Dot has served as a board member for the Guild of Mountain Artists and is one of the founding members of Timberline Gallery in Oakhurst. She has been a powerful force in the promotion and growth of art in the eastern Madera County region. | Dot Morris Portfollio | | Maggie Elliott | Brian Kincade | Lola Nelson | Hazel Robinson | Calvin Lyster | Judy DeRosa | Diane Astier | Ronna Adler | Mary Jane Campbell-Mann | Ginny Burdick | Gloria Jacobson | Chris Sorensen | Chris Malicoat | Mark Gudmundsen | Dorothy Morris | Mina Pratt | Dixie Zoeller | JoAnn Huffman | Terry Lowe | Merylyn Whited | AnitaStoll | | Return Home | Artists | Map | Local Tourist Links | Contact Us | Latest News | |
