About The Artist
Metal smithing is a fascinating experience. The first time I watched the transformation of the metal as it yielded to the heat of my acetylene torch and the shaping power of the hammers, I thought, “Wow...This stuff is as maleable as clay!”

My Masters Degree is in Social Work. In 1989 after 25 years in community planning/organizing, fund raising and marketing, I enrolled in the Glassell School of Art in Houston, Texas “just for the fun of it.” Two years of metal smithing taught by Sandi Zilker and enameling with Maryanne Papanik-Miller gave me an excellent foundation. The classes included design theory, fabrication using cold connection techniques, fusing and soldering; lost wax carving and casting; surface texturization with acid etchings, producing alloys, engraving, bezel setting, embossing, repoussé. Basse-taille, champlevé, grisaille and cloisonné enameling.

Additional workshops over the years with metal smith art jewelers Pat Flynn, Charles Lewtin-Brain, Suz O’Dell, Susan Woods has broadened my metal smithing knowledge. I have been a member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) since 1991.

Over the years I found time to make a piece now and then, sold as commissioned pieces, but the time to really work at the art seemed to elude me. When my first husband and I returned to California in 1993, we designed our retirement home to include a detached 800 square foot studio. His unexpected death six months later changed my life. As they say, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.”

My plans to use these metal smithing skills to create art jewelry were put on hold. I joined Timberline Galley in 1994 and applied my fund raising and community organizing skills to it, serving as President from 1998 until 2002. During that time I met and married Zygmund John Zee, a computer geek/graphic artist who continually encourages me to devote time to the jewelry art work.

Take a look through my portfolio. I hope you enjoy the pieces as much as I did in their creation.
