;void(0)) Terence is a woodturner. Although he has been turning for more than ten years, he has only recently begun to show his work. He uses mainly local wood, walnut being the most commonly available, to produce bowls and vases which showcase the beauty inherent in this most natural of materials. He receives particular pleasure from turning wood with intricate grain structures, faults and burls, and often uses coloured resins to complement the pieces, which are subsequently finished in natural oils and waxes. In this way the natural beauty of the wood is preserved, whilst maintaining its all-important tactile feel. Terence graduated from the University of Liverpool, England, in 1968 with a degree in electronic engineering. His 30-plus-year career took him into the fields of computer control systems and software development – a profession he found intensely rewarding. He was always interested in working with his hands (gave his brain a rest), and has built guitars, surfboards, canoes, a kit car, and a partly-built airplane ( because it is still under construction). He has licenses for flying sailplanes and powered aircraft. His other hobbies are almost too numerous to mention, but include photography and music. Terence moved to the foothills area five years ago. His studio at the moment is one corner of the garage, in the part that the airplane isn’t, but plans are in hand for building a new workshop. “It’s important to find a natural balance in life and what one strives to do in it. For me there aren’t enough hours in each day, and each one is precious, not to be wasted.
