Album Description
"Vintage Songs Of Yosemite" is a compilation of rare recordings of past Yosemite entertainers, along with Tom Bopp's own performances of previously unrecorded songs. You'll also hear a recreation of the famous "Fire Fall Calls" that were exchanged between Glacier Point and the valley floor, before the singing of "Indian Love Call." Call it music, call it high camp; these unique artifacts come alive in 'Vintage Songs Of Yosemite', providing a nostalgic tour through the dizzying variety of ways Yosemite has been interpreted by popular culture over the years.

From the Artist
It is such a pleasure to share these musical impressions of Yosemite, most of which have rested unsung in piano benches for decades. These songs and old records remind me that, while current expressions of Yosemite will someday become dated curiosities, the best of them will commemorate the timeless Yosemite experience for years to come.

Album Description
Piano/vocal, live performance.  "Just A Bowl" is Tom's musical romp from the Great War (W.W.I) through the Great Depression, including two duets with Bill Coffman at the mighty Wurlitzer Theater Pipe Organ, and Tom on the Bosendorfer Imperial Concert Grand piano.  Recorded before a live audience in El Segundo, California.

From the Artist
This album manages to capture me doing my cabaret shtick--the thing I more often than not lapse into when performing at the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite.  It is also fairly typical of the sort of thing you're likely to hear at one of my concerts.

Album Description
Solo piano.  "Meadowloop" is named for a gentle, pastoral buggy-path that circles the Wawona meadow in Yosemite.  The music is mostly Irish and Scottish in origin (with a brief foray into some old cowboy songs), recorded on the 1906 Kanabe parlor grand in Yosemite's historic Wawona Hotel.

From the Artist
John Muir once wrote "In the Sierra I sang and whistled [the songs of Robert Burns] to the squirrels and birds, and they were charmed out of fear and gathered close about me." For me, music of the Celtic spirit is the best accompaniment for Yosemite scenery, and the old piano at the Wawona Hotel, which has been my companion since 1983, is the best instrument on which to interpret that music.

Album Description
Solo piano.  "Parlor Piano" recreates what might have been a typical evening's entertainment in Yosemite's Wawona Hotel, perhaps 80 years ago.  Recorded on the 1906 Kanabe parlor grand in Yosemite's historic Wawona Hotel.

From the Artist
In the summer of 1882, Yosemite artist Thomas Hill brought his seventeen year old daughter, Estella, to Big Tree Station (yet to be renamed the "Wawona Hotel"). There she met John Washburn (one of the four brothers who founded the hotel in 1879); they married in 1885 and moved into the front bedroom which is separated from the hotel lobby by a small parlor. Estella’s upright piano stood against the wall that backs one of the lobby fireplaces, and she would play and sing for friends and guests; her favorite was "Love’s Old Sweet Song."

Album Description
Including an atonal tango, a fantasy on Latvian folk-songs, a meditation with electric guitar, a serenade for string quartet, and a fascinating, mind-bogglingly silly set of computer variations on Paganinni's 24th Caprice, this is Tom Bopp as you've never heard him.  All the music is realized on a Kurzwiel electronic keyboard, with a musical palate ranging from orchestral to synthesized.  Excellent sound, heartfelt and thoughtful music for the adventurous ear.

You can think of these as "scores without films."  This CD compiles the best of my own musical works since they released me from the UCLA music department (with a B.A. in theory and composition).  I'm making these discs to order out of my own studio.

"FIREFALL" - DVD

Tom Bopp opens this delightful episode from PBS's California's Gold, produced by Huell Howser.  You'll see for the first time rare footage of the Firefall, while Tom sings "Indian Love Call" at the Camp Curry stage. Meet Ginny & Glenn Willard, who ran the Firefall programs from 1949 to 1968, Nic Fiore (veteran Yosemite Ski School Instructor who once built the fire and raked the coals), and Bill Lane, who demonstrates how he once "called" the Firefall from Camp Curry in the 1930's.
