| In the Summer of 1999 in
Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Concession Services
commemorated the centennial of Camp Curry with special
festivities including the debut of three newly created
band arrangements. These band arrangements were created by nationally renowned composer/arranger Stephen Kent Goodman from rare copies of original piano sheet music. The three marches (The Stentor, The Yosemite March & Two Step by Allen and the Yosemite March by Hetzel) were unearthed from the Yosemite Research Library by Yosemite entertainer Tom Bopp. |

Yosemite March
by George W. Hetzel
The Yosemite March, composed in 1896, is a sterling example of the genre, undeserving of its 100 years obscurity. On the original sheet music is the following inscription: "Respectfully Dedicated to George T. Exton". Nothing has yet been found concerning Mr. Exton nor the dedication.
$50.00 each or purchase all three marches for $135.00. Shipping and handling is $5.00 per order.

The Stentor March
by Maurice Blumenthal
The Stentor March, composed in 1914, is dedicated to David Curry, who founded Yosemites Curry Village, now in its 100th (1999) year of operation. A 1915 recording of the march features the "stentorian" voice of David Curry performing his trademark yells: "Hello Glacier...all's well... farewell." The first call was Curry's customary greeting from the valley floor to those at Glacier Point, 3,000 feet above, preparing to rake glowing coals over the cliff in that nightly show called the "Firefall." Regarding the last call, a contemporary observer wrote, "As the stage drives up to take its loads away he [Curry] reads the list and calls each name, shakes hands with each departing tourist, and as the stage pulls out he shouts "Farewell" in tones that nearly blow them off their seats" [quoted from the back page of "The Stentor" sheet music]. That call is to this day emblazoned on the back side of the arched "Camp Curry" sign.

The Yosemite March &
Two Step
by Elmer Allen
The Yosemite March & Two Step, composed in 1903, was published the year President Theodore Roosevelt visited Yosemite. Interestingly, on the original sheet music cover, the words "As Played By Arthur Pryor and his world famous band" are covered with a stripe of metallic gold ink, suggesting that the publishers' aspirations to fame had been somehow thwarted.
