Email Setup – Outlook Express 6

If this is your first time starting Outlook Express 6, the Internet Connection Wizard may pop up automatically. If it does, skip to step 3.
To set up a new email account…
  1. Select the Tools menu, then choose Accounts.
  2. Click on the Add button, then click on Mail.
  3. Click in the Display name field and type the name you would like people to see on e-mail messages they receive from you. This could be your real name, a nickname, a business name, or whatever you would like. Click the “next” button.
  4. Type your full e-mail address. Click the “next” button.
  5. Click in the “Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) server” field and type
  6. Click in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP) server” field and type
  7. Click the “next” button.
  8. In the “Account name:” field, type your e-mail username.
  9. Click in the “Password:” field and type your e-mail password. (Note: when typing in the “Password:” field, you will not see the letters or numbers that you are typing. Instead it will show an * for each character.)
  10. Uncheck the “Remember Password” box only if you do not want the computer to save your password and you would prefer to type your e-mail password every time you check your e-mail.
  11. Please leave the “Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)” box unchecked and click the “Next” button.
  12. Click the “Finish” button.
  13. In the Internet Accounts window, highlight the account you just created.
  14. Click the Properties button.
  15. Click the Servers tab.
  16. Under Outgoing Mail Server, click to add a check for “My server requires authentication”
  17. Click the Advanced tab.
  18. Change the Outgoing mail (SMTP) port to 587
  19. Click the “OK” button.
  20. Click the “Close” button at the bottom of the Internet Accounts window.
