BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN / JR. AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO:Building Maintenance Supervisor
LOCATION:Oakhurst, Mariposa and surrounding areas
DEADLINE:Open until filled
HOURS:Full-time work schedule: 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This position may be required to work overtime, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
POSITIONS TO BE FILLED:One
STARTING PAY:$23.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience.

GENERAL SUMMARY

This is a dual-role position with first priority responsibilities in groundskeeping and facilities maintenance and general automotive maintenance and repairs as needed.  The incumbent will ensure the good condition of Company facilities, equipment, and grounds.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a variety of grounds-keeping and maintenance duties.
  • Use power equipment to clear weeds and maintain lawns.
  • Mix and spray / spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees.
  • Maintain irrigation systems, including winterizing and de-winterizing.
  • Diagnose problems and recommend solutions to maintain and repair facilities or equipment.
  • Maintain machinery and outdoor equipment and make repairs as necessary.
  • Repair and maintain the physical structure of buildings and company facilities.
  • Work with various hand and power tools to accomplish many different maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in organizing and planning for routine maintenance and the upkeep of Company buildings and properties.
  • Maintain sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots. Gather and remove litter.
  • Respond to service requests and maintenance emergencies as needed.
  • Regular and predictable on-site attendance is an essential function of the job.

OTHER RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in the Automotive Shop, performing basic vehicle maintenance and other tasks.
  • Perform 90-day DOT inspections at a professional level.
  • Provide courteous customer service, responding to written, verbal, and email inquiries.
  • Produce and maintain complete and accurate records of all repairs and maintenance for each vehicle/piece of equipment in physical and electronic files in a neat and organized manner.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized and well-stocked shop; pick up parts from outside vendors, receive shipments, process paperwork in an accurate and timely manner, and organize the auto shop area to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Move furniture and manage office reorganization as needed.
  • Deliver packages between various departments and site locations.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED).
  • Three to five years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have a valid Class C California driver’s license with a minimum of three years of driving experience.
    • Driving experience must have occurred after having passed a traffic laws and signs test.
    • If relocating to California from another state or country, must have, at a minimum, a valid driver’s license issued by the home state equivalent to a California Class C. The employee will be required to obtain a California driver’s license within ten days.
    • Must be insurable via Sierra Tel’s standard auto insurance policy procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of
    • Mechanical operation of vegetation control equipment (weed eaters, mowers, powered saws, wood chippers). Bucket truck experience is a plus.
    • Methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in automotive and equipment maintenance and repair.
    • Basic knowledge of automotive maintenance, principles, and methods of preventative maintenance.
    • Basic knowledge of internal combustion engines, diesel engines, and components
  • Skill to
    • Perform basic math calculations.
    • Proficiently use software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as basic Internet operations.
    • Read and interpret plans and schematics.
    • Effectively communicate with customers and coworkers in English, verbally and in writing.
    • Plan and organize multiple tasks under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to
    • Adapt to changing conditions.
    • Learn additional Company software applications.
    • Learn other Building Maintenance trades (i.e., plumbing, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
    • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding customer and Company information.
    • Effectively handle multiple, potentially conflicting situations.
    • Calmly and professionally work with a variety of people and personalities.
    • Understand and carry out verbal and written instructions in English completely and accurately.
    • Project a professional image in conduct, attire, grooming, and manner of speech.
    • Maintain paperwork in a neat, organized manner.

    • Travel when required.
