INTERNET NETWORK TECHNICIAN

REPORTS TO: Internet Operations Supervisor
LOCATION: Oakhurst
DEADLINE: Open until filled
HOURS: Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Hours may vary. After-hours and weekends may be required.
POSITIONS TO BE FILLED: One
STARTING PAY: $28.00 to $40.00

GENERAL SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintenance and configuration of routers, networks, and servers.  The position also provides Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service to Sierra Tel customers.  

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Maintain and configure:
    • Cisco Routers and switches.
    • Wireless internet, broadband, and dial-up networks.
    • Windows, VMWare, and Linux servers.
    • Internet services, including but not limited to email, web, news, authentication, Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPOE), and Structured Query Language (SQL).
    • High-speed links to customers, downstream providers, and upstream providers.
    • Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure.
    • Network security and monitoring infrastructure.
  • Assign Internet Protocol (IP) numbers.
  • Ensure that client systems comply with industry standards and regulations, including Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
  • Perform complete and accurate processing of all job-related paperwork.
  • Maintain regular on-site attendance.

OTHER RELATED JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Administer subpoenas and warrants as required by law enforcement.
  • Provide other support as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Two years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) and/or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) desirable.
  • Must have a valid Class C California driver’s license with a minimum of three years driving experience.
    • Driving experience must have occurred after having passed a traffic laws and signs test.
    • If relocating to California from another state or country, must have, at a minimum, a valid driver’s license issued by the home state equivalent to a California Class C.  The employee will be required to obtain a California driver’s license within 10 days.
    • Must be insurable via the Company’s standard auto insurance policy procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of
    • Windows and Linux server operating systems.
    • Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in an Internet working environment.
    • Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and other routing protocols on Cisco routers.
    • Ethernet switching and routing.
    • High capacity access to upstream Internet providers.
    • Servers and services including authentication, database, email, web, name resolution, addressing, file transfer, and scripting.
    • Virtual Server infrastructure.
    • Multicast, Quality of Service (QOS), and video formats.
    • Firewalls.
    • Network troubleshooting, Spectrum Analyzers, and packet sniffers.
  • Skill to
    • Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and interpersonally.
    • Accomplish work using a collaborative, team approach and serve as a member of a systems project team.
    • Proficiently use software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other productivity software.
    • Proficiently read, write, use proper grammar, edit, and proofread.
    • Plan and organize multiple tasks and projects under deadline pressure.
  • Ability to
    • Solve problems in an organized, responsive, and highly thorough manner.
    • Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding customer and company information.
    • Work in a customer service-oriented organization.
    • Adapt to changes in procedures and responsibilities.
